When it occurred to me that guide books about trees are printed on the very fiber of their subject, I realized would be possible to turn paper back into forest. The resulting installation conflates—or gets rid of the space between—the natural and constructed worlds. It explores how we use language, nomenclature, and classification to distinguish ourselves from and assert power over our environment. The “wallpaper”, comprised of the pages from which the tree illustrations were cut, links us to interior spaces, adding to the ambiguity of whether we are viewing an interior
or exterior space.
